About Me

    Anna Heeres, or SpeckledStarling on most social media platforms, is a fantasy illustrator working out of Cleveland, Ohio. Originating out of a small village in Northwest Ohio, the Korean American artist is often inspired by the flora and fauna she grew up surrounded by. Her routine as a child involved running around outside playing pretend in the woods, reading fairy tales, and drawing the fantastic worlds that she imagined herself in, all before tumbling into magical dreams at night. Now, as an adult, her routine during the day has shifted a lot, leaving little room for running around outside using sticks as swords. Though she now spends much of her time inside pulling inspiration from various video games, movies, tv shows, and books during the day, she still finds herself in similar dreamscapes when asleep.

With lots of Anna’s inspiration coming from films, television, and videogames, it’s no surprise that she likes to create concept art for those industries. She specifically likes to work on composing magical landscapes though she also enjoys designing whimsical creatures and characters. Though Anna usually works digitally in Procreate, she has experience in the Adobe softwares such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. She still tries her hand in traditional media such as ink and watercolor when working in her sketchbook for ideation and experimentation. Her color palette leans towards earth-tones with the occasional splash of color, heavily influenced by her upbringing. Most of her previous work features creatures and/or characters with wings with an emphasis on lighting, but lately she’s been more inspired to create atmospheric environments that tell stories. Anna has displayed work in galleries in Cleveland as well the area that she grew up in, and has sold prints at local sales.
